The area under the Forest is 972 Sq. Km. i.e. the district has 15.40% of its Geographical area under the Forest Cover. Status wise break up of the Forest area is as under.  

Major part of the forest is in Arvi, Karanja, Ashti, Wardha and Seloo Tahasil at North part of the district. The un-analysed areas which is 50 % of the total forest area, comes under the Revenue department. Reserved area which is 33 % where as Conservative area which is only 17 % comes under the supervision of forest department.

Forest Products

Fine quality of Sagwan trees are found in Arvi and Hingani subrange of forest. Inspite of that, forest generally contains Dhawada, Salai, Tendu and Mawai trees. In forest Pen, Kalamb, Palas, Moha, Behada etc plants are also available. Forest land cultivates few major types of grass such as Karad, Dhonad, Musham, Makhel and Sheng etc. In year 2007-08 Rs.13677041 are collected from forest product, out of this, Rs. 8752166 and Rs.12735 are collected from Timber and fire wood respectively.

 Forest Development Program

To protect the land from flood and water drainage due to heavy rain, and to maintain the land for cultivation purpose, forest plays the important role. In this direction, for forest development few schemes are implemented. Such as. 1)  Central nursery constitution 2) Re-forestry of poor forest 3) Common forest scheme 4) Forest conservation, wild animal and nature conservation. etc.

Population, their demands and traditional requirement

Wardha district comprises of 1379 villages having 12,30,640 (figure as per 2001 censes ) population which includes. The Cattle Population with Bulls and Cows 492217, Sheeps and goats 188118 and others 49474. Local villagers are meeting their requirements of fodder , Fuel and small timber for agricultural implements and house repairing from the adjoining forest area.

Saint Tukaram Van Gram Yojana


This is a state government scheme for encouraging to people in development forest i.e., Afforestation, soil and water conservation, protection of forest fire ,wild animal conservation, prevention of illegal grazing, providing the water stock to animals and birds, involvement of women, optimum use forest fuel, public awareness in forest development. In this division, near about 1191 forest close village has been participated.191 Joint Forest Management and Forest Development Agency committees involved in this programme. According to State government of Maharashtra sanctioned order FDM 2005/ ltr. No.313/F-2 Dt.23/11/06, the JFM and FDA registered committee eligible for the Saint Tukaram van gram award. Near about 21 committees working in this scheme.

Habitual Offenders  

Ten Years back following areas were under the influence of so called Wood  smuggler Samser because of this the incidences of illicit cutting by local villages were increased. Due to constant patrolling their activities had completely been stopped.

Preventive and Protective Measures

In Wardha Forest Division there are 142 beats. Out of these 6 are hypersensitive , 31 ara Sensitive & 105 are Normal. In addition to this Round Officer's are also inspecting once in 3 Months. The damages which are not reported by the Forest Guard shall be verified by the Round Officer by using his seizure hammer, he should report to Dy. Conservator of Forests, for further action.

Check Post

In Wardha Forest Division there are 18 check Nakas which are manned round the clock (24 hours) forest Guard and Vanmajdoors are posted to check the illegal transport of forest produce. Round officers are instructed to check Naka daily particularly during night times. Range Forest Officers and Asst. Conservator of Foresters are also instructed to visit the Naka's when on tour and should put this remark in the Naka Register.

Control room

Control room is erected all over the division for rapid communication.These control room stations are working for 24 hours. 1 Assistant conservator of Forest working as controlling officer, 3 forest guard working as operator. Peoples have been informed to controlled room against forest crime i.e. illegal cutting, illegal animal hunting, land encroachment, forest fire, illegal soil or murum digging.

Wireless Net Work

Wireless system is erected all over the Ranges & rounds for rapid communication. These wireless stations are working for 24 hours. There are 13 Base stations installed at Round & Range Head Quarters & 15 Hand sets are given to the subordinate officers & vehicles are well equipped with 08 Mobile Set Units.
